Deforestation in the Sinharaja

Like many forests in the world, the Sinharaja Rainforest  is facing the problem of deforestation. Deforestation is the clearing of trees from a forest for land use. In Sri Lanka the land is being cleared for plantations and to provide fuel and timber. This tends to destroy many habitats. Many animals live in trees and by cutting those trees, animals are having there habitats destroyed and are being forced to move. It also causes soil destruction because when the soil is exposed to the sun’s heat, the soil’s moisture dries up, nutrients evaporate, and bacteria are affected. It leads to erosion and the soil is never the same again. It also messes up the water cycle because a large part of the water that roams the area remains inside the plants. This causes the atmosphere and water bodies to dry up a little bit. It reduces the amount of water which is cycled around the world. This also causes the climate around that area to change. When you cut down trees, CO2 stays in the atmosphere which causes this hot place to get a lot cooler.
